Brazzale Dairy Group, producing and trading cheese and butter since 1784, is known as leading company in the innovation and development of Eco-Sustainable chains.
In Brasil, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazzale Company has developed a revolutionizing cows’ breeding named “Silvi Pastoril”, putting into practice the results of a long research carried on by Dr. Maronese.
Basing on a “green protocol” signed the 2002 with the local partner “Ouro Branco lt.da.”, Brazzale Group’s subsidiary in Brasil, an Eco-Sustainable biologic cycle has been created, reaching the highest animal welfare standard, without modifying the natural ecologic balance.
Silvi Pastoril: the project
This revolutionizing cows’ breeding system involves a vast territory: Ouro Branco’s fazenda is the place where this project has been developed. This vast land was once exploited with monoculture. It has been now recuperato, reverted into breeding land and reforested with a plantation of 300 trees for each cow, totaling more or less 600.000 trees.
The cattle, even if constantly under control, will live in a wild state and, except for a few salt, it will only be grass-fed. Cut and mechanical transportation of the feeding will be eliminated, with a big saving in terms of emission. No chemical concimi will be used, since the fertility will be maintained thanks to the correct proportion animal/hectare.
LThe East-West orientation of the trees’ lines grants the optimal photosynthesis. The wood’s micro-system preserves the soil humidity, impedendo the desertification and at the same time incrementando the natural rainfall. Thanks to this, artificial irrigation is not needed, thus contributing to a huge saving of sweet water. In order to grant that the sweet water remains pure, water springs and rivers (corsi d’acqua) inside the fazenda will be qualified as protected reserve and the cattle will dispose of abbeveratoi alimentati da pompe idrauliche azionate dalla stessa corrente dell’acqua.
Bio-diversity is granted thanks to a natural oasis which extends on the 20% of the area, in which the breeding and the entrance of the cows will not be permitted. This area is connected to a network of bio-corridors through which the wild animals can run for hundreds of kilometers outside antropizzate areas.
Cattle’s cura operations will be taken on following the most modern animal welfare in an “no-stress” center which avoids agitation and physical trauma to the cows.
The Eucalyptus trees, once cut, are used in building industry to substitute concrete and ferro, while the scraps alimenteranno the thermic centrals as a renewable source of energy.
Thanks to the big savings of natural resources, the production cost of the meat has been greatly reduced and the selling price is half the European meat price. The meat is top quality and it is sold in a special supply chain and it arrives to the shelves of the biggest retailers in Brasil. The meat is not exported to Europe yet
“The consumer – as said by Piercristiano Brazzale, zootecnic dept chief – non si accontenta più of a good, healthy, convenient, traceable finished product, prerequisites dati per scontati. He is asking for something more: not only the whole supply chain has to respect the environment but it also has to create positive synergies with the environment, to be good for the whole planet and to contribute to the world’s Eco-sustainability. Facing the planet’s growing ecological imbalance, everybody has to review their lifestyles and entrepreneurs have to rethink their production models. Brazzale Group decided to invest all its innovative resources on the development of “Eco-sustainable chains”.
As for the meat in Brazil, also for milk and cheeses, which is the core business of the company, Brazzale developed a unique Eco-sustainable chain in Czech Republic. To find out more about these Eco-Sustainable chains visit “The Eco-Sustainable chain” page.
